Buffon: 'The Skepticism Exists, But I'm Sure We Can Qualify'
Buffon acknowledges the skepticism around Italy but is adamant — the team has the quality to qualify for the World Cup.
Gianluigi Buffon, Italy's national team coordinator, didn't shy away from the uncomfortable questions — the Azzurri can feel the fans' distrust, but the legend is convinced that Gennaro Gattuso's side will handle the pressure.
Italy missed the last two World Cups and now must get past Northern Ireland and the winner of the Wales vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina tie to earn their place at this summer's tournament.
"It's true that we can feel people's skepticism, but I'm sure that even the fiercest critics will support Italy when the first whistle blows. We need to send a message now that makes them change their minds. All the lads are very solid and used to handling all kinds of pressure. The magic that the Italian national team can create goes beyond the current difficulties. We must respect Northern Ireland, but I also believe our team can reach the final if they give 100%. The players need to be aware of their qualities," Buffon declared.
